HOPI EAR CANDLING
A relaxing treatment for the ears. Helps to alleviate headaches/migraines, sinus problems, tinnitus, stress symptoms, colds, sleep disturbances, snoring, hayfever, deafness, sinus irritations, earache, travel sickness and the build up of earwax.
What is Hopi Ear Candling?
Hopi Ear Candling, or Thermo Auricular Therapy as it is also known, can be used to treat many conditions of the ear, nose and throat area. The candles work by vapourising their ingredients once lit, causing convectional airflow towards the first chamber of the ear. The candle creates a mild suction, which lets the vapours gently massage the eardrum and auditory canal. Once the candle is placed in the ear it forms a seal, which enables wax and other impurities to be drawn out of the ear.
What Can It Treat?
The candles can be used as a relaxing treatment to ease away the stresses of our Western culture and to address a number of problems relating to the ear, neck and face areas. The treatment helps to alleviate headaches/migraines, sinus problems, tinnitus, stress symptoms, colds, flu, sore throats, sleep disturbances, snoring, hayfever, deafness, sinus irritations, earache, travel sickness and the build up of earwax. The treatment is suitable for children and is a good alternative for people who have found syringing uncomfortable.
What to expect at a session
Fully dressed the client lies down on their side, with their head supported on a pillow so the auditory canal is vertical. The candle is then lit and the non-burning end is placed gently into the outer ear passage and is turned lightly to seal it in place. The candle then generates a pleasant crackling sound and a warm, comfortable feeling while it draws out the impurities from the ear. After around 10 minutes the process is repeated on the other ear. This is followed by a period of relaxation; a facial acupressure, scalp and ear massage concentrating on the sinus areas.
How does it work?
When lit, the ear candle generates a gentle heat which, when combined with the therapeutic oils, produces a light suction action. This is known as the chimney principle, and works by drawing impurities gently to the surface, where they can be removed. Most deposits evaporate and are carried away through the candle ‘chimney’, but some are found in the condensed candle wax residue after it is removed from the ear. None of the candle residue actually goes into the ear.

REFLEXOLOGY
Applied to pressure points on the feet that correspond to the individual parts of the body. It aims to restore balance and harmony by increasing the circulation to the internal organs and glands through the feet. By working on the reflexes homeostasis can be achieved by un-blocking energy that stagnates in the feet.
What is Foot Reflexology?
Reflexology is sometimes known as Zone Therapy as the body is divided into different zones represented by a point in the foot. Nerve endings are imbedded in the feet that then travel to the spinal cord and to various parts of the body. Stimulating these nerve endings thereby helps promote relaxation, improve circulation, stimulate vital organs in the body and encourage the body's natural healing processes. Unlike conventional medicine, reflexology works on the underlying problems within the body and works through the body's nervous system. Sometimes lactic acid can be felt in the foot in the form of little crystals. This is sediment due to poor eating or lack of exercise and can be crushed and reabsorbed into the body thereby allowing the lymph system to eliminate the waste product.
What Can It Treat?
Reflexology can be used to help restore and maintain the body’s natural equilibrium. This gentle therapy encourages the body to work naturally to restore its own healthy balance. Reflexology can treat nearly all health problems. Although all reflex areas will be massaged, I will pay specific attention to the actual problem area. So, for migraines, strokes, multiple sclerosis, etc. pressure will be applied to the reflex point in the foot that relates to the head and the connecting areas. In this way I will treat all disorders according to where in the body they occur, for example, neck, back and hip problems, sciatica and arthritis will be treated in the musculoskeletal area and angina, high blood pressure and any circulatory problems will be treated in the heart reflex area and so on. A course of treatment may be recommended depending on your body’s needs.
Who can benefit from reflexology?
Reflexology is suitable for all ages and may bring relief from a wide range of acute and chronic conditions. After you have completed a course of reflexology treatment for a specific condition, many people find it beneficial to continue with regular treatments in order to maintain health and well-being. While many people use reflexology as a way of relaxing the mind and body and counteracting stress, at the same time many doctors, consultants and other health care professionals recognise reflexology as a well established, respected and effective therapy.
What to expect at this session
Once you arrive for your reflexology session, I will begin by conducting a short consultation, detailing your personal health so that I will know if there are any contraindications, or reasons that massage may not be advisable. You are then asked to remove your shoes and socks and lay comfortably on the massage couch, remaining fully clothed. The treatment involves light, but firm, compression massage to the soles and uppers of your feet. It is possible that there will be quite a dramatic reaction to the first treatment in various forms such as increased bowel movements, cold type symptoms or skin problems. This is a very
healthy sign, which tells you that the treatment has encouraged the release of harmful toxins from the body. During treatment some areas of the foot may feel a little tender and these will correlate with the problem areas in the body. By working on the reflexes homeostasis can be achieved by un-blocking energy that stagnates in the feet, helping to restore balance and harmony by increasing the circulation to the internal organs and glands through the feet. Precautions: If you are pregnant, please talk with your doctor first.
FACE REFLEXOLOGY
This form of massage is based on three ancient alternative therapies: This massage deals with the principle that there are reflex areas that correspond to the glands, organs and systems of the body and uses a unique method of touch on these reflexes.
A firm massage on the reflex points will help to free deposits enabling energy to flow freely again through the body.
What is Face Reflexology Holistic Massage?
This form of massage is based on the ancient art of Oriental pressure therapy and zone therapy, and is a form of reflexology. This massage deals with the principle that there are reflex areas that correspond to the glands, organs and systems of the body and uses a unique method of touch on these reflexes with the fingers and thumbs. Zone therapy takes into account the theory that the body has connection pathways or channels where energy (chi) flow in lines in the body to supply all the organs, tissues and the mind, linking them all together. Excessive stress disrupts this balance so that the body systems are affected in different ways and to varying degrees.
What Can It Treat?
Face Reflexology is addressing all aspects of an individual: emotional, physical and mental. Therefore any imbalance of the body can benefit from Face Reflexology. Including health issues as diverse as menopausal and hormonal issues, digestive problems, migraines, muscle tension, and the general affects of a stressful lifestyle. Face Reflexology is deeply relaxing. You don't realise how much tension builds up in the muscles of your face - which reflects through the entire body. Daily use of your face to laugh, chew, talk, grimace, frown, express and suppress emotion, all result in an accumulation of facial muscle tension that the deep releasing strokes of face reflexology will steadily dissipate - achieving a corresponding improvement in your health.
What to expect at this session
Once you arrive for your face reflexology massage, I will begin by conducting a short consultation, detailing your personal health so that I will know if there are any contraindications, or reasons that massage may not be advisable. After acquainting you with the massage room, I will leave to allow you privacy to remove your top leaving on your undergarment and lay between the towels on the massage couch. A firm massage on the reflex points will help to free deposits enabling energy to flow freely again
through the body. This also helps to stimulate muscles and tissues allowing adequate supply of blood, oxygen, and protein to reach the face. Treatment includes face cleanse and lymphatic drainage massage with oil. During the treatment some areas of the face may feel a little tender and these will correlate with the problem areas in the body. By working on the reflexes homeostasis can be achieved by un-blocking energy that stagnates, helping to restore balance and harmony by increasing the circulation to the internal organs and glands through the face.
NOTE: I use a carrier oil on the face to achieve a deep massage. Aromatherapy oil plays an important role in this treatment. Please discuss with me if you wish to add essential oils to your treatment.
